MyGlobe DUO

MyGlobe Duo landline is finally working! Hurraaay! Since I registered to Globe Duo last Aug. 19, I've been trying every single day calling every PLDT and bayantel number I know. Last night, after a friend called I simply tried my luck to return her call. And at my surprise, it rang. Hurraay! Globe is working after 16 days of my registry. Now, I only have another 15 days to maximize it before it would expire. Hopefully, there will be no longer interruptions and technical problems. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Globe DUO (Cellphone and landline in 1 sim)

I was ingtrigued with this GLOBE DUO when I saw it in a local advertisement. I am currently using SMART services for my mobile phone since 1999 and Smartbro for almost 3 years now for my internet connection. For landline I am using PLDT Wireless sim. Everything is going smoothly and haven't encountered any problems with these services. The only hassle for me is the metered calls with my PLDT wireless sim. The P300/mo. which is 2.5 hours/mo. is not enough. Most of the time I consume more than P300/mo. And also it bothers me that every 5 or 10 mins. the line is cut and I have to redial again to connect. I cannot stay long to talk on the phone with my pldt wireless sim. I don't know if I am the only one who experience it. But in totallity all these services which I have right now, can be trusted its reliability. As long as you have a load you can call anytime and anywhere with no problems with connection.

About switching to GLOBE, I was hesistant at first because I had previous bad experience with Globe. I applied for Globe Speak and Surf P999 (landline plus broadband). They gave me a receipt and a wireless phone and modem which is not working. They said it will take 7 days for activation and I patiently waited but it took an eon to oblivion. Still there's no service from Globe. It was 3 years ago and for the first 6 months I made follow ups and nothing happened. Until I finally gave up. It was clearly bogus. I later on found out that there are still no Globe site in our area and that they are still working on it. Darn, why are they selling something that isn't working?

After 2 years, here goes again. Globe has finally breaktthrough with this GLOBE DUO sim unlimited landline service. Its very interesting as I wrote and commented in one of the blogs. I'd like to try and give the benefit of the doubt that Globe still works. I can spare to waste 450 registering fee for duo landline and the price of the sim. Its not that expensive though. Maybe, just maybe this thing really works.

Some of the thought that makes me wanting for Globe Duo.

Its kind of a hassle to me bringing 2-3 phones everywhere I go. So, when I heard about this I was hoping that I could be using only 1 or 2 phones. So, I bought a globe sim and registered it to DUO. Simply type DUO MM 450 and send it to 8888. It took me several tries to get to register and finally I got the confirmation and my landline no. is 02-500xxxx. I tried to ring it using my smart mobile and it did. I was so happy that it is working. I texted everyone telling them my new globe nos. But when I finally got home, I was trying to make an outgoing call, but unfortunately I can't. I tried PLDT and there's no connecting tone. I tried Bayantel but it says Call rejected. I tried digitel and it seems to work but I don't know anyone who uses digitel. I just dialed my old digitel no. that isn't connected anymore. A friend of mind called using bayantel and we talked for 11 mins. Her voice is clear and loud so as mine too, she said. There's no static, and she wants to know how this duo works. She's also planning to register to duo, since she's already using globe mobile. But I already warned her that as of now I cannot make any outgoing calls.

Just as i read in Yugatech blog about the feedbacks of duo clients, it seems that the connection problems started last Aug14 that nobody can make outgoing calls anymore. I was unlucky to be caught up with this technical problems. Someone said, she can make outgoing calls but cannot receive incoming. And when she reported it to fix the problem, after she can receive incoming and not an outgoing call anymore. When I called the globe hotline they told me that as of now we really can't connect to pldt lines since they are currently restoring the connection with pldt. They can't give any assurance when will this be settled and fixed. Its kinda annoying but still I am hoping that they can restore it the soonest possible. My 450 is about to go to waste if I cannot maximize it for 30 days. We should get a refund for the days lost since we've registered by the days.

I had to reload my pldt wireless sim to make outgoing calls for now. I paid 450 for duo and can't get the services I needed. Maybe it should be Globe duo Unlimited incoming calls, there's nothing different with pldt, since it also has unlimited incoming calls and limited outgoing calls. But right now my Globe duo has unlimited incoming calls and no outgoing calls.

I am still hoping that GLOBE DUO is REAL. Because its really a fantastic and awesome deal. Just make it RIGHT and make it WORK.

CARLO CAPARAS AS NATIONAL ARTIST 2009?

The awarding for National Artist 2009 was not as peaceful and ordinary awarding like it used to be from the previous years. The commitee for NA has carefully chosen four(4) candidates that they think was deserving and qualified for the title based on their standards and qualifications. They submitted it to President Arroyo for approval.

The final result given by the President was seven (7) candidates. The President was entitled to add only one (1) NA as her prerogative, according to a decree and Presidential Executive order. She disregarded one artist from the original list and added four (4) instead.

This incident has clearly violated the rules and bypassed the NA choosing process. This 2009 National Artists Award has become a turmoil that Philippine National Artists Awardees and ALL concerned artists, students, citizens and even government agencies protecting the credibility and cultural heritage of the Philippines, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), and National Center for Culture and Arts (NCCA) has joined the FUNERAL March for NATIONAL ARTISTS last August 7, 2009.

All participants has worn black as a statement for the death of justice. The Award for National Artists in the Philippines is a prestigious and highest award giving body to Filipino Artists. It is of great honor to belong and categorized as a Pambansang Alagad ng Sining. This award acknowledges an artist's great contribution to Philippine Art and Philippine History. It is of by honor and virtue that an artist is rightful to this category.

And so, concerned people marched and showed their distaste in the NA Awards 2009. Many National Artist Awardees were present in the event, including film directors, visual artists, writers, professors, artists, musicians, students, and some public figures in the film and music industry were present.

There were some issues that was raised:

1. First and foremost, there was a legitimate procedure in choosing for National Artist. It was made by selected and credible "proper" authority whom chosen to be seated to do this tasking.

2. There were rules, guidelines, qualifications and standards that should have met by the "nominated NA's."

3. The National Artist Award is a prestigious, honorable and highest award that a Filipino can receive. Therefore, it must be given to those who truly deserve this award.

These three (3) points listed above was the simplest points that should be followed. Nonetheless, there was nothing to be questioned about. But, the saddest and most infuriating of all, these three points was violated.

1. It seems that the authority of the President was over-powered by the 'proper authority" of the NA committee. Instead of adding ONLY one, she added four NA's.

2. The most controversial, so-called National Artist Awardee Carlo Caparas was not included in the final shortlist but was surprisingly present in the final National Artist Award.

3. Since the public and concerned artists, National Artist, film, media, musicians, writers, etc. has voiced out their distaste and opinions for including Carlo Caparas as National Artist, these people

believe that there are other artists "more" deserving to receive this award.

As the heated issue goes on, Caparas believes that he is more than deserving to receive this award. So he believes himself and a few people. Therefore, there is no way he's gonna give up this award.

For those people who strongly believe that there has been a political involvement and manipulation in this NA Awards, they have already done their individual right and freedom of expression. Regardless of the validity of this award given by the President, but in the eyes of the people there's a question of the authenticity and truthness of this award. There's a glitch that one cannot truly claim of something that he doesn't deserve of something that he and only he claims.

Though we are a democratic country and believe to have democracy, still we are suppressed and tied with invisible chains.

Paalam President Cory Aquino

Goodbye tita Cory. Your journey in life has come to an end but your legacy continues in the lives of the Filipino people. Words are not enough to give you thanks and praise on how you touched each of the lives of the Filipinos.

The present generation and the future generation is very thankful and grateful for your courage. determination and strength to stand by the Filipino people and lead the People's Revolution of 1986 or greatly known as the EDSA People Power. It is rightful to acknowledge that you are the true Mother of Philippine Democracy. I believe that only ONE in a hundred years, a hero is born. And for our generation, we recognize you as not only a Mother of this country but also a Hero who has given us the freedom and democracy that we are breathing right now.

Manila Bay, Philippines

It's a Sunday morning, and no traffic anywhere in Metro Manila. We went to Mall Of Asia (MOA) to see the beauty of Manila Bay. The month of June is supposedly a rainy season here in the Philippines, but probably due to the sudden change of weather/climate because of the global warming, it seem like a summer day. I can feel the heat of the sun and the warm heat of Manila bay as the humid wind touches my skin. I can smell the water as it splashes against the walls and the strong wind reaches us at the second floor of the bridgeway of the mall. Its a great way to spend family time here, whether to stroll inside the mall and go shopping with lots of stores to choose from. There are also open air restaurants and coffee shops a great place to hang out with friends. Family, friends and also pets like dogs can also be brought here, go strolling at the park.

Tagaytay City, Philippines

Just when the rainy season started to pour this May, we went for a drive to Tagaytay City. The cloud's a darkened grey in a 6 o'clock atmosphere. It hasn't started to rain but the looks of it, it soon will. We arrived and small drops of rain started to wet the atmosphere. Bringing a kind of dim ambience.

There are two directions to traverse going to Tagaytay, the one is using Coastal Road and the other is via C-5 SLEX (South Luzon Express Way) via Sta. Rosa/Silang Exit. Its a long straight road to Tagaytay and its easy to find.

At the roadside of Silang Cavite, the town before Tagaytay, there are lots of roadside vendors selling fruits like, senorita bananas, manggoes, langka, mangosteen, etcetera. There are also 'pasalubong stores' selling pastries, coconut (buko) pie, fresh cow's milk, fresh carabao's milk, pasteurized cow's cheese (kesong puti), banana and cassava chips etcetera. There are also picnic areas like Picnic Grove best to bring friends and family for bonding and get together. There are cottages in the slopes of the hillside of Tagaytay, with a good view of the area. There are tourist spots like Palace in the Sky where many souvenir items can be found. You can also visit Tagaytay Highlands, and a boat ride to the famous Taal Volcano, the small but active volcano located at the Taal Lake. Alongside the road of Olivares town (Tagaytay) there are many restaurants and bars to choose from to dine, there are also hotels, cheap inns for a budgeted overnight stay, and some privately owned houses offers transient rooms. For people who loves flowers and gardening, there are many different flowers for sale at the roadside of Tagaytay. Some people would go there just to buy flowers.

Tagaytay is not only for leisure but most of the seminars, conventions are being held. There are also different retreat houses to spend spiritual retreat and seminaries located at the hillside.

Like Baguio City, Tagaytay is a cool place to stay not far from the city. Its only a 2-3 hours drive from Quezon City/ Manila. Can spend breakfast and lunch at Tagaytay and be back in Manila for dinner.

Baguio City, Philippines

There are many must see tourist spots in the Philippines, in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. There are a wide variety of choices depending on one's preference. Like you can spend the summertime in the Northern part of the Philippines without experiencing the summer heat. Like spending your summer in BAGUIO CITY. Eversince I was a kid we would spend our summer in Baguio. We would bring food and usually have our family picnic and get together, biking, horseback riding at camp john hay, boating at the man made lake, and spend our time enjoying the mountainous region of Baguio City at Mine's View Park where the scenery's great. You can also enjoy strawberry picking and eat fresh fruits and vegetables. If you'd like to buy souvenirs there are lots of good stuff like knitted clothes, leather jackets, silver accessories, home decors, souvenir items like different wood carvings and many more. For "pasalubong" or snacks that you can bring home, there are sweets like peanut brittle, strawberry jams, tarot jam or "ube," coconut jam, choco chips or cereal, and many other things. You can find all these at Session Road, or inside the market place of the city. Its a long main road in Baguio City, downtown where you can find different establishments, stalls, boutiques, fast food chains, restaurants and bars for a night life. There are bars where acoustic singer sings or band at night while you drink and enjoy the evening with friends and family.

For overnight spending or more there are cheap hotels and nice and cozy hotels that you can spend for the night. You can spend a classy night at Camp John Hay Manor Hotel if you'd like to spend your night in a quality and convenient place to stay and at the same time enjoy the view of the tall pine trees right at your window. For a limited budget stay, there are dormitories and transient room/house all over Baguio City.

Philippines was named after King Philip of Spain to honor him when Spaniards came to the island. Philippines is an island situated in Southeast Asia with an estimate of 300,000 sq.m. land mass and consists of more than 7ooo islands. Philippines is also called Pilipinas or Pinas in short.

The Inhabitants (natives of different regions, the minority, called Pilipino or Filipino in general)
During pre-spanish conquest there were local inhabitants, the natives already living and settling in the Philippines. They have their own language, culture, livelihood, technology, community and leadership through the head or chieftain called datu of a barangay. There were various systems or laws to abide by the people. Men and women have equality of rights in many ways. The people were living in a communal system wherein the people has each rights to whatever the community owns. There is no sense of personal ownership. Not until the colonization of Spaniards began in the Philippines.

Climate
The Philippines is a tropical country, it experiences DRY and WET season only. Summer starts beginning March and ends usually at the middle of May where rainy season is about to pour. Starting May 'til September is rainy and October usually when tyhoons starts to strike. There were times Filipinos experience typhoon even at the start of December.

Language
The Philippines is divided into three big regions, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. There are regional languages used Ilocano, Hiligaynon, Bisaya, Bikolano, Cebuano, Kapangpangan, Waray, Pangasinan, Tagalog.
The official national language before was Tagalog. But there were regional issues concerned and Pilipinos from different regions protested and questioned the use of Tagalog as the national language wherein there were only few people came from Katagalugan region who technically refered to as Tagalogs. As a result from Tagalog it was changed to Pilipino as the national language since people living in the Philippines were called Pilipino citizen regardless of their native origin. The issue then was solved coming up with a general or more common term for Philippine official langauge. But later on it was changed to Filipino, changing the P to F by adapting new letters of the alphabet like C, F, J, Q, V, X, Z. Adapting these new letters to the Pilipino alphabet A,B,K,D, was in view of accepting the fast changing environment. It is an indication of opening the Philippines to the globalization. There were new ideas, information, gadgets, technology, food, materials, and many other things that came from other countries that is widely accepted and used in the contemporary Philippine society. For instance, machinery and technology in medicine like x-rays, medical terminologies, scientific names, and other foreign things and names were being used in study was hard to translate in Pilipino language. In terms of food, Spaghetti, lasagna, macaroni is now a part of Filipino birthdays, pancit, lechon, siomai, siopao came from Chinese, there were terms that is hard to translate in Pilipino. That is why the national language was changed to Filipino, using F as manifestation of the new changes not only in the alphabet but also in the Contemporary Philippine Society.
